~~Great Barr Musical Theatre Company has the reputation of staging unusual productions and ‘Bad Girls’ was no exception.
From the opening curtain to the curtain call, this gritty production lived up to all expectations. This show was based on the television series of the same name and had everything that you would expect. Moody lighting and the wonderful music added to the evening.
The story tells he tale of Helen Stewart (Jay Lacey) the new wing governor who battles with officers Jim Fenner and Sylvia Hollamby, both played superbly by Craig Smith and Anne Hewitt. We meet the top dog, Yvonne Atkins (Maureen Bowyer), the old timer Noreen Briggs (Margaret Pitt) and Shell Dockley (Amanda Payne) plus all of our other television favourites. A death on the wing implicates Jim Fenner and with Helen about to loose her job the women decide to nail Jim once and for all.
Directed by Steve Hyett and Produced by Maureen Bowyer this production was not for the faint hearted and had many adult themes running through it but in true Great Barr sprit the cast pulled out all the stops to ensure a good nights entertainment. The set, though basic, was very effective and was added to by the lighting effects.
Another good solid performance from Great Barr MTC.
