A narrator looks back on his prom year in the 80’s amid great music like Kids in America, and Footloose.  A happy choice and a happy show. The set of the Rubic Cube summed up the era and the entrance of the car was ‘so cool’. Although hesitant at first, the cast grew into their roles. Their American accents were realistic and maintained. William Godfrey as Corey Palmer Jnr. came across as a nervous teenager who wanted to do well for his year group. He was supported by Louise Brown and Emma Gilmour as the naïve joke makers Alf and Kirk, This was nicely contrasted by the confident Michael played by Louise Freck who appeared cool to the girls but was underhand too. Partnered in meanness and song with him were Caitlyn Thomson, Callum Mack and Polly Greer as Billy, Lionel and Huey  who all did a wonderful number Get into My Car. Also playing a boy was Rebecca Hardy. Her experience showed through as she successfully and likeably played the class geek Feargal who in the end turned the tables on the bully. Other outsiders Laura and Debbie, namely Lauren White and Elise Macgregor teamed up with Eileen the new girl, Emily Henderson who jumped spectacularly and sang a moving duet with Tiffany.  Building on her experience of last year was Rachael Bryce who made a believable Tiffany.  Samantha Niven had good stage presence and a powerful voice that fitted the role of ‘material girl’ Cindi. The adult roles of Mr Cocker and Miss Brannigan, with Finlay Reynolds and Nicki Scott, gave an extra dimension to affairs of the heart and Hannah Reid as narrator Corey Palmer Snr. put the whole show into perspective. The chorus supported the whole with their enthusiastic singing and colourful 80’s mix of costumes. Well done to all.
