This was the final performance of Babes in the Wood presented at St Thomas’s Church Hall, St Annes on Sea. This company had decided, to again take the show on tour to various venues in the area and they are to be commended on their commitment and dedication to this idea.
It is no mean feat to ‘ up sticks’ with costumes, set, sound system etc. and create the atmosphere in each new venue.
There was great anticipation before the curtains opened as various members of the audience, having enjoyed last years production, were looking forward to this years show.
The enthusiastic cast members worked well together to bring Paula Curtis’s script to life but I did feel that some of the performances had an ‘end of run’ look about them
Geraldine Brown as Robin Hood gave an assured and confident performance as she gathered together her merry band. Andrew Would showed his experience and talent as the Sheriff, who was booed at his every appearance. The two Babes Ellie Maden and Lewis James showed no signs of nerves, giving very confident performances. Claire Louise as Simmy bounded on stage and continued to give a high-octane performance with great comic timing. The ensemble numbers were very successful with very well balanced sound and some well rehearsed choreography, given the small playing area and there were some good vocal numbers.
Congratulations to Paula Curtis for her choice of music, some of which was featured in the 1960’s London Palladium Production. Costumes and props all looked very authentic for the period.
This company never fails to provide a very entertaining show and I look forward to my every visit. Thank you so much for the warm welcome to my wife and myself.
