The outcome of this production was a testament to all the hard work that must have gone on during rehearsal. Not only did the cast have to sing, dance and act but most of them had to operate a puppet at the same time. The difficulty in doing this was compounded as two puppets had two operators at the same time.

Anil Patel was outstanding as Princeton showing what a talented performer he is and his skill as a puppeteer enabled him to transfer a full range of emotions to his puppet. Pete Beck’s performance as Nicky was equally impressive and he had to incorporate an extra hand in the guise of either Vickie Beck or Lucy Bishop. He worked well with Patrick Jervis (Rod) as their relationship unfolded. Lucy Follows gave a very strong performance as Kate Monster as she tries to follow her dream. Kate Pinell was delightful as Christmas Eve with excellent partnerships involving several cast members. What a voice Ben Foulds demonstrated as Trekkie Monster and I hope that it lasts out for the week’s run. He was another puppeteer having to incorporate an extra arm supplied this time by either Sarah Clark or Hannah Clark. I also liked the delivery, by Lucy Surtees, of Lucy the Slut’s numbers.

There was good support by Adam Lacey (Brian), Aaron Morris (Gary Coleman) and Sarah Mathias (Mrs T).They all made valuable contributions to the story as did Hudson Mitchell (Ricky) and Will Bourn (Newcomer). There were some well timed interruptions from Zoe Albutt (Girl Bad Idea Bear) and Dan Anketell (Boy Bad Idea Bear). The Singing Boxes were amazing with all the ensemble work being slick and energetic. Good lighting, sound and a very professional band together with all the cast ensured an excellent evening’s entertainment.

Congratulations to everyone involved!
