As We Like It (Flower Power Shakes up Shakespeare)
Side by Side Theatre Company is a company that comprises of members with learning difficulties. They are now in their 21st year and their Artistic Director Susan Wallin has taken the company from strength to strength finding ways to expand the actors’ experiences.
This year’s production was based on Shakespeare’s As You Like It, but was set in 1967 in a hippie community and call As We Like It .
As Orlando James Emtage played with such warmth and his singing was a joy to listen to. I enjoyed Susie Schwartz as Rosalind , who with James worked well together. Sarah Field as Celia was a joy to watch; great facial expressions. There were also good performances from Chris Male and Ben Rees.
The music for the production was well chosen and good use of props and a simple set . I never knew a coat stand could have so many uses.
Overall a good production and one to be proud of when you take it to the Edinburgh Festival later this year.
Thank you for your hospitality.
