Worcester Gilbert and Sullivan Society – Around The World With G & S
An excellent compendia of G & S operettas, Written and Directed by Christine Davies, was staged fully costumed and excellently performed to the delight of Gilbert & Sullivan lovers. Songs from a dozen or so of the much loved operettas including items which are seldom heard, The Grand Duke and Utopia Limited were featured and are two underrated operettas in my book. Who could not enjoy “When you find you’re a broken down critter” (The Grand Duke) superbly performed by Andrew Howie (Dick Deadeye - sort of) who gave a very energetic and extremely humorous performance as link man. The large cast and chorus gave a rousing performance of many well known songs including the lovely “Eagle High” which is often performed in Concert though it is in Utopia Ltd which as I said before not very often performed. The Musical Director, Rachael Trimm and accompanists Joy Reeve and Charles Pavey were excellent. The whole evening was a delight and well worth being performed to a much wider audience. I loved every minute of it and congratulate Christine on putting the whole show together
