It was good to be back with COMIC for an evening of musicals from around the world.
The show took us on a tour of the world with Phileas Fogg played be Richard Delahaye on the evening I attended in his hunt for the award-winning Comic Theatre Company – I assume this followed their award of best musical in district five last year! He was handed clues which took us to the next location and gave us a hint of the musical number to follow.
With a large cast it is difficult to name all involved however each of the numbers were worthy of congratulations whether they be company numbers, duets or solo. The opening to act one was impressive with The Book of Mormon, as was the opening of act two with Matilda. Performances of mention came from Ian Underwood, Justin Randle, Beth Chisholm-Birch, Chloe Turner, Jess Billingham and Roger Trigg. A special mention needs to be made of young Holly Nelder who gave an excellent performance signing ‘Naughty’ followed by Kim Topham and Peter Holmes with ‘Loud’.
The orchestration was of a good quality under the leadership of Edward Harrisson. Throughout most of the evening the cast could be heard over the music.
It was evident from comments overheard that the audience, like myself, enjoyed the evening and appreciated the work which had gone into the show.
It was pleasing to be with COMIC and to be able to speak with a few members of the group during the evening. I most certainly look forward to your next production – The Adams Family at the end of November 2018 for which we had a taster at the end of the evening.
