Another polished production from LOS and this was an opportunity to hear many of Cole Porter's great songs presented in excellent fashion. An extremely good set giving us the real feeling of being on board the SS American. With the orchestra playing on the upper deck, this gave extra room on stage and the ability to use the front of the stage for some entrances and exits. The strong cast all gave excellent performances, the whole company working so well together. Thomas Hacket directed and played the part of Billy Crocker and with Florence Chisholm playing Hope Harcourt, this made for a super duo. Kate Long was the strong lady with a heart of gold, Reno Sweeney. Her rendering of "Blow Gabriel Blow" with her red "angels" was great. Duncan Taylor-Jones was Lord Evelyn Oakleigh - a real upper class twit and another enjoyable performance. All the other parts were well in character and the whole company looked just as they should with good singing and movement from all, accompanied by Ian White's musicians and with ideal choreography by Mel Stoner. The Behind the Scenes Team created their usual magic and the quality programme (the first thing one sees when going to a show) was excellent.
