Anything Goes is one of those feel good shows with a predictable but highly amusing story coupled with many well known rhythmic musical numbers by Cole Porter. As the nightclub singer Reno Sweeney, Marie Hannigan brought liveliness, excitement and sparkle to the role whilst also delighting the audience with her striking vocal ability. Equally, Chris Morris provided an impressive first rate performance with great ease as the young Wall Street broker Billy Crocker, both in his acting and through his musical numbers. Heather Slamin provided a fine performance as Hope Harcourt, the object of Billy’s affection, as did Violet Thompson who played Hope’s overbearing mother Evangeline. Robert Kirkham remained stiff upper lipped as the stuffy and hapless Lord Evelyn Oakleigh and Jonathan Procter brilliantly characterised the loveable but dim gangster Moonface Martin complete with different coloured socks for each scene! Providing further amusement was Jacob Simpson and Marc Costello as Luke and John the Chinese converts.  All remaining principals enacted their parts well with great support provided from the chorus and a grand troupe of dancers. The show was well directed and maintained good pace throughout with all the principals making full use of every opportunity to bring out the comedy. A most ‘Delovely’ and highly entertaining evening.
