From the first few bars of music it was clear that this trip aboard the SS American was going to be an enjoyable one. The entire production flowed seamlessly from scene to scene with everyone “on board” looking like they really wanted to be there,

Heading the cast in the role of “Reno Sweeney”, Kelsey Douglas gave a superb interpretation of the role; her singing and dancing were excellent. Kelsey was ably supported by Aaron Hepple as “Billy Crocker” who also sang and acted well throughout. Martyn Banks, as “Lord Evelyn Oakley” the English toff, and Shelly Nicholson, as “Hope Harcourt” the high class engaged couple, provided perfect contrasting personalities, maintaining character and singing well. Maurice McShane, as “Elisha Whitney”, was outstanding, his characterisation, accent and timing were excellent, and James Stickland, as “Moonface Martin”, played into the affections of the audience, getting every laugh available. They were both well supported by their respective lady friends played by Gemma Cole and Helen Land.

All minor principals gave good solid performance's and the chorus sang and moved well. The dance routines were lively and entertaining to watch, and the good costume plot lifted the uncomplicated set.  A special mention to Peter Forster who took on conducting the show after opening night due to the ill health of the musical director. Hopefully knowing that the music and the orchestra were in such good hands helped Joe feel a little better, and it sounded first class.

Well done everyone, your trip may have been stormy along the way but you docked perfectly!
