This great musical comedy is set aboard an ocean liner and focusses on the lifestyles of some of the rich and glamorous passengers. Cole Porter composed the wonderful songs for the show, providing both the music and lyrics that fit so well into the story line; as a young man from a wealthy and privileged background he attended Yale University, which is mildly mocked in the script. There is no doubt that the young team involved in this production possess an abundance of creative talent which they applied with great energy and enthusiasm. All the songs were competently rendered, with the band providing impressive musical accompaniments. There was excellent characterisation from the actors who delivered their lines with timing so precise that the considerable comedic content was quickly appreciated by the attentive audience. The choreography had been carefully devised and was well executed with much skill and precision. The straightforward set was effective and facilitated fast scene changes, thus enabling the efficient stage crew to maintain the pace so essential to this type of production. The costumes were of a high standard and the make-up always appropriate. The faultless performances made this a most memorable production. Congratulations to all who contributed to ensuring that this show measured up to the ‘GYTS` high standard.
