E.M.T.’s second concert ANTHEMS was made up of songs from the musicals and again showcased the immense talent within this company and the commitment of it’s members.

We were eased into the programme with a charming rendition of “Pure Imagination” sung by Claire Laurenson followed by  “Jesus Christ Superstar” which was not only vocally very strong but choreographed with great precision. The imaginative staging and precise movement was very striking throughout particularly in “TheTime Warp” and “Radio Gaga” which raised the roof. This was an evening of outstanding performances from all on stage. “Take That Look Off Your Face “ was delivered with great confidence by Josephine Heinemeier , Katy Williamson Toni Liddell and Ruth Harris while Laura Marie Richards “As Long As He Needs Me” was powerful and convincing . “Tell Me It’s Not True” from Blood Brothers is always a tear jerker but Hazel Beattie delivered this number with tremendous passion and emotion.

As well as strong, serious moments there was some light heartedness as Nicola Dryburgh, Nicole Graham, Andrea Keir, Henrietta Linnemann and the company had fun with “When I Grow Up” from Matilda.

One of the most emotive and compelling sections for me was “The Phantom Of The Opera Medley” Claire MacLean, Jennifer Good and Andrew Todman were in excellent voice as they led the company through a selection of numbers from this well loved musical. The strength of the choral singing too was quite superb and here again the subtle movement enhanced the overall presentation.

E.M.T. are presenting Chess in the Spring of next year and we were treated to a taster of this show with a bold, patriotic performance of “Anthem” sung most impressively by Kenneth Pinkerton whose voice rang through the auditorium and an engaging performance of “I Know Him So Well” by Caroline Hood and Denise Trainer.

“One Day More” was a stirring, rousing finale to this wonderful programme. This was a memorable, quality production demonstrating true professionalism by a most accomplished company supported by an excellent band. A frist class evening all round.
