Annie Kids is a shorter version of the classic musical perfect for the different age ranges on stage in this production.

Kat Foxworthy directed the show, and from the outset it was clear that her vision was to incorporate all children, as many times as possible, I completely respect this and it is something Katsact have always done well.

Choreography by Eleanor Johnson also made sure every child was used.  I really enjoyed It’s a Hard Knock Life, the use of space and different groups worked so well.

Chloe Backhouse played the iconic lead Annie.  She had a very good presence on stage and her diction was lovely.  She has a powerful and lovely voice; however, it was difficult to understand everything due to issues with the sound.

Leo Stewart looked the part as Oliver Warbucks, I could not hear him when he was singing but when he delivered his dialogue, he had thought about how to get the lines across to the audience.

Grace was played by Elodie Beauchamp, she was excellent, this is a part that is a supporting part but if done well can be a show stealer, she had the character voice and diction of someone who not only worked for Warbucks but respected him, great job Elodie!

Toby Sarll and Poppy Evans had the swagger and look of Rooster and Lily.  And I must give special mention to Jyla Morgan, I loved the idea of Sandy being played by one of the children.

Unfortunately, on the night I went there were unavoidable technical issues due to the technical manager being in hospital.  However, the sound was also an issue, either the microphones were too high or not on at all, this is something that did impact the show, the children are incredibly talented with powerful voices.

This society is one that is so inclusive that they are a joy to watch, this is what youth theatre should be about, all children being given an opportunity, thank you to Kat and Eleanor for their hospitality on the night.
