It was my pleasure to attend Preppies production of “Annie Jr” to cover for a colleague and thank you for your warm welcome. This is a group of enthusiastic, talented young people and they gave their all in this production. There were two casts and I am assured and have no doubt that the Saturday cast also gave a super performance. The junior version of the show has fewer musical numbers and a shorter running time than the original but still has the famous songs such as Hard Knock Life, Easy Street and Tomorrow amongst many others and offers young performers opportunities to shine.

The set comprised of a video wall depicting the various scenes with additional furniture and props, this was a good choice due to the limited performance space.

The performers gave their all and it was clear they were enjoying being part of the production. The orphanage scene was a delight with each of the characters showing their individual personalities and with confident singing, well done all of you. The other ensemble members and those covering the roles of Warbucks’ staff, radio show hosts, New Yorkers and street corner characters all made an excellent contribution to the overall production and it was a cute addition to have someone play Sandy the dog, well done Elodie W.  Max M was super as both the laundry man and then President Roosevelt with good clear diction, and Theo D stood out in the cameo role of Drake. Ben L and Willow M made a good partnership as Rooster and Lily with great singing voices and character work. As Grace, Mr Warbucks personal assistant, Yasmin L had lovely vocals, a good accent and clear lib delivery. Evie P was a force to be reckoned with as Miss Hannigan, commanding her scenes and relishing in playing the mean character. As Oliver Warbucks, Lukas R gave a assured performance secure in his character, a lovely protrayal. In the title role of Annie Evie M sang very well, her rendition of “Tomorrow” was lovely and she confidently led the show.

Overall you could tell this production was a team effort, everyone on stage enjoying being there which always flows into your audience, keep up the good work!

Behind every youth production there is an army of behind-the-scenes support, congratulations to them for giving so many young people this great opportunity to perform.
