Another successful show seen by the NODA National President, John Barnes, accompanied by his good lady, Judith, the Regional Councillor, Gordon Richardson, the Regional Rep, Peter Parlour on the opening night. It was enjoyed by them all, and afterwards they met the cast on stage. There were many excellent performances, in particular Rosie Wilson in the title role of Annie, confidently played throughout. This 10 year-old has a great future on the stage. The Orphans were all very well played and they sang their hearts out. Mention must be made of 9 year-old Eve Emison, who played Annie’s friend, Mollie, who also has a great future. Other orphans were played by; Laura West, Lucy Browne, Eve Wilson, Megan Howlett, Laura Reynolds, who was also the understudy for Annie, Eliya Trevorrow, and Shemiya Trevorrow. They were all under the watchful eye of Miss Hannigan, excellently played by Emma Browne. Comedy came from Roger Kiddle, as Rooster, aided and abetted by Rachel Egan as his girlfriend Lily, and how well they performed. Anthea Richardson played Warbrucks’ secretary, Grace Farrell, elegantly. Oliver Warbrucks was excellently played by James Cornick. Martin Holdsworth, always does a great performance, was again well cast as President Roosevelt. Many members played several parts. David Alan played Lt Ward and the President’s right hand man, Ickes. Denis Hawthornthwaite was the Laundry man, the sound effects man, Bundles McClosky, and Hull, in the President’s office. Ben Laws- Williams played Bert Healy the radio presenter, and the Boylan Sisters were played very well indeed by Hannah Miles, Amy Tinsley and Elizabeth Oates. Roy Peake in one of many parts played the ventriloquist in the radio scene. Janet Miles played Sophie, Mrs Greer and Perkins [the Warbrucks house keeper] while David Ferry played Warbrucks butler, Drake, very well indeed. Sandy, Annie’s dog, did well in front of the audience, and as the week went on nearly owned the stage. Eric Wardhaugh is always there in a small part. The entire cast did a first class job in putting on this show in 10 weeks after having to abandon Fiddler. Great credit must go to Richard Bainbridge, the Director, and the Musical Director Alan Owens, as well as the back stage staff who had to prepare the scenery and paint it. Yes it was a great success performed in front of sell-out audiences. Well done, Northallerton.
