A new and young production team led this production of Annie and a packed audience eagerly awaited the well - loved songs and story line.
The company comprised youngsters from 8 – 16 and they were well drilled in the choreography and movement.
Unfortunately, the programme notes did not put characters names against the actors so I can only praise the following characters for their efforts and portrayals. “Grace Farrell” was full of grace and elegance and has a voice worth nurturing, Oliver Warbucks gave a confident sense of largesse in both voice and gesture.
There were occasions when it was difficult to hear dialogue as the radio mics were only used for singing and some of the delivery lacked purpose and emphasis missing some of the jokes. Nevertheless the production team made good use of the ensemble and generally all scenes were well handled.
As always though, no matter how hard any company tries, the scene stealer was Troy the dog who was superbly trained and very well controlled by “Annie” especially in the finale when he decided that his bows were done and it was time for dinner!
