This musical has been warming hearts for more than 40 years now and it is testament to the quality of the show that another professional UK tour is taking place this year.
Michelle Gregory (Grace Farrell) and James Gorton (Daddy Warbucks) led the cast with enthusiasm, empathy and lots of talent. As would be expected the cast of children produced some rousing numbers with Eliza Rose Tall (Annie) leading the way. The rest of the orphans on the Saturday night were Teri Jo Trevelyan (Molly), Phoebe Ann Hunt (Duffy), Chloe Hourihan (Pepper), Lily Dunne (July), Abbie Maxwell (Tessie), Emily Taylor (Kate), Connie Mather, Holly Ruff and Teigan Wileman. The team of children on alternate performances would be just as entertaining as the team I saw, I’m sure. Natasha Beckett (Miss Hannigan) worked well with the children which is often a difficult ask so well done for that and may there be many roles for you in the future. The delightful Karen Terry (Lily St. Regis) was teamed up with Callum Beckett (Rooster) to provide lots of the humour as a pair of inept gangsters. There are lots of talented company members who kept popping up in a variety of roles ensuring that the action was slick and flowing.
The singing was strong by principals and ensembles and the inventive choreography was carried out with confidence. The scenery was excellent supplementing a few hired cloths with some well-constructed balustrades etc. It was well lit with good sound and with excellent support from the ‘pit’.
I doubt if there was a single member of the audience who didn’t go home with a smile on their face and humming some of the catchy songs. Well done to everyone!
