As ‘feel good’ shows go this must be one of the best known and Lichfield’s offering didn’t disappoint in any way.
I must, first of all, compliment Mark Timms and the orchestra in proving a well balanced accompaniment to the singing and this enabled the sound technician to ensure that every word from the stage was heard.
The children led by Katie Davey (Annie) and Anye Sutton (Molly) were a delight stealing the hearts of the audience from the start as did Sandy the dog. Vickie Beck shone as Grace Farrell as did Charlotte Middleton in the role of Lily St Regis. There were very strong performances from Pete Beck (Oliver Warbucks) and Patrick Jervis (Rooster Hannigan). Julie Mallaband made the role of Miss Hannigan her own as she lurched from one drunken situation to another. There was good support from Ray Hibbs (Drake), Louise Farmer (Mrs Pugh) and Amanda Haslam (Mrs Greer). In fact most of the ensemble kept popping up in a variety of roles giving valuable contributions to the production.
The production team should be justifiably proud of the final outcome and it was certainly appreciated by the audience.
There was a good lighting plot and excellent scenery and costumes.
Well done to all concerned!
