"And Then There Were None"

 

 

Agatha Christie wrote this novel with a different title in 1939 and she adapted it for the stage in 1943 with some plot and name changes. Robert Griffiths, Director and Jill Thompson, Producer had brought together an experienced and talented cast, to provide an impressive Production of Christie’s most popular play.

The curtains opened to reveal a solid looking set depicting the living room of a house on Soldier Island, off the coast of Devon, in the 1930’s.The set was well dressed and lit and captured the era and it was given a deserved round of applause.

As the house lights went down and in the semi darkness, cast members walked through the audience creating a mysterious and tense atmosphere.

The eleven strong cast was excellent as we were introduced to each character and we were drawn into the mystery of their presence at the house.Every character was very well defined and each actor played their roles convincingly as their pasts were revealed. The pace of the play was first-class as the tension built with very good diction and projection from all the actors. Congratulations to Robert Griffiths, Director, for bringing out all the nuances and facets of each character as they successfully interacted with each other.

John Tipping, Sound and Lighting provided excellent effects which were essential for the success of the action. He must have been delighted to have the recently installed lighting at his disposal, a great improvement from the original equipment.Costumes, accessories and hairstyles successfully reflected the era and enhanced the individual characterizations.

ALL ON STAGE GAVE FIRST CLASS PERFORMANCES!! 

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 The rhyme “ Ten Little Soldier Boys “ indicated how each character would meet their deaths and I was sure I knew the ending as I had see the play before. I was pleasantly surprised to see an alternative ending.                                                                                                                                                                                                                              This was another excellent Production by this talented company.
