This was another excellent performance by this very talented company. This is the first time this particular piece has been produced away from Bolton and it deserves to be seen by a much wider audience. The play is a delightful mix of comedy and poignancy and received a very well deserved reception by this first night audience. I loved the authentic Clog Dance at the opening of the show. Thank you, Sue Boysfield, Choreographer. Renee Ames, Director, decided on a minimal set which worked very well and she brought out the best from this group of first class actors. Every character was carefully delineated and diction was excellent, although at times there were some strange Bolton accents! I was particularly impressed with Chris and Geof Porter, as Billy and Alf whose scenes together were very moving, bringing some of the audience close to tears, myself included. “The Beautiful Game” is integral to the play but not essential to the audience’s enjoyment of the show. We were given a fascinating insight into the lives of a family in the early 1920s and their obsession with their beloved Bolton Wanderers. Lighting and Sound technicians Colin Johnston and Dave Campbell are to be congratulated on a flawless contribution to the overall production. Thank you all for yet another memorable evening.
