I was immediately struck by the lovely welcome I received when I returned to view one of SPADS evenings of one acts.  This is a very caring group of “lovies!!!” and I really appreciated their genuine concern for my wellbeing. Thank you so much.

The evening was divided into two very distinctive halves. The first being a showcase encore of past entertaining items performed by new members of the society or some of the younger members who are developing their craft and the second being a one act play.

Lighting was good and the click tracks used were not so loud that it became uncomfortable to listen.

Peter Wright made a very good compare and linked the various turns together with confidence and panache. What a cheeky chappy!

The trio of Clarke boys, Josh, Jordan and Noah in “Pitch Perfect” was hilarious and not at all what the audience expected but Drag Queens of Letchworth they will never be…. they are much too talented and competent. Well done boys.

However, my favourite turn was Sarah Freer, Chelsea Everitt and Jenifer Glatzhofer performing Evolution of Music. This was a very cleverly choreographed dance routine performed to easily recognisable clips of popular music from the early 1900’s through to today with celebrated dance styles to match. Ingenious.

The second half of the evening was a one act play by Cheryl Barrett called Acting, It’s Not Plumbing… and directed by Alan Reilly.

Here again we witnessed some very experienced members of SPADS acting alongside some newer members and the whole balance of characters worked very well indeed.  Costumes were good throughout and props and set though minimal were most appropriate to the story line.   Direction overall was good and the limited space of such a small stage was well utilised.

We enjoyed the evening very much as I know the rest of the audience did. The quiz during the interval was great fun and the cakes yummy.

My thanks to SPADS for their hospitality, and I hope to see you again soon
