I was delighted to attend this concert as both Youth Coordinator and also to cover for my colleague as Regional Representative as I am always assured that when I visit In Your Face Theatre Seaham that I am met with enthusiasm from the moment I step into the building. As always the performance also oozed this enthusiasm and a positive vibe from the opening to the final curtain.

Aimee Curtis opened the evening’s proceedings with a poignant remembrance to HRH Queen Elizabeth including a note to her love of performing and theatre.  The show then got off to a moving start where the young performers recited a poem they had written about what theatre means to them, this really touched me and I took the liberty to share it at the NODA North Region Performance Awards. The 23 young performers then lifted the theatre roof with their rendition of “When Children Rule the World”, such a great opening number. Other company numbers were all well delivered with some good movement to compliment them.

Many of the cast were given the opportunity to shine and have their moment in either solos, duets or small group numbers, all giving their best and grasping that opportunity with everything they had. Rather than listing every number and performer please be assured that I thought all of you performed well and I was impressed by the standard of performance. It would be remiss of me not to mention a couple of pieces that I personally enjoyed those being the SIX performance – fabulous; the ballet by Daniel Davies to Quartet at the Ballet as well as the dance with Kathryn Mitchell in Electricity – simply beautiful, I was also impressed that Daniel had acted as production choreographer; Burn by Leila Liddle - wow; Maybe it’s Time by Nathan Johnson - so moving; As long as he Needs Me by Aimee Curtis – so good, where did that voice come from? And of course a lovely taster from The Addams Family, the group’s next production, by Orie Coulton-Goodwin and Emily Kerr.

Well done to the production team including the 2 young members helping as stage crew (Luke and Aimee) and all of the company, I am really looking forward to what this group of young performers achieve with Shrek Junior in 2023.
