Without doubt the music from Walt Disney movies and stage shows must be amongst the most well-known of all songs. Since 1937 and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first animated cartoon until the most recently released movie generations have grown up singing these songs.
As a result, to pull together an evening incorporating the most popular songs is almost impossible as time would not allow them all to be covered. Stourport Choral and Burlish Park Primary School however managed to sing their way through many all-time favourites.
Around forty-five pupils from Burlish Park started the evening sat in the front three rows of the audience. Each in their individual costume as a Disney character therefore we had numerous Princesses while the boys were primarily characters such as Woody from Toy Story. On cue and in line they went up on stage sang several songs on their own and joined Stourport Choral in others. The children were well disciplined and enjoyed singing songs such as “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “Under the Sea”. The finale provided an opportunity for the children to demonstrate how well they knew “Let it Go”.
The chorus either singing as a company choir, in smaller groups or individually lead the rest of the evening’s entertainment. There were several light-hearted moments when the choir took themselves less than serious such as the realisation they had eight (some very tall) dwarfs. There were particularly memorable numbers such as “Feed the Birds” and “Be our Guest”. The parts of Lumiere, Mrs Potts and Chip were particularly well done as was the barbershop quartet singing “That’s What Friends are For. The choir were led by their musical director Alistair Elliott while Angela Allard accompanied on the piano.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening involving many in the local community in a venue managed entirely by volunteers.
