In a change of format from their Annual Cabaret evenings, Falkirk Operatic chose a tongue in cheek, behind the scenes ”take-off“of an Amateur Musical Society.
The show started with members of the Committee trying to agree and disagree over who was in charge and how the chosen show should evolve. We then progressed through the am dram season of, first rehearsal, auditions moving on to the technical, the dressing rooms and then finally the show itself. Each section was linked with appropriate show tunes for the company and soloists.
As the show rehearsals progressed it was very easy to identify within our own societies the back biting, prima donnas and all that goes with the am-dram season.
The show allowed for the company to all have a share of the limelight. It is therefore difficult to single out individual performances on this occasion. I must however give mention to Amy Sutherland and Shirley McNulty for their excellent performances.
This show could be adapted by any society as a fund raiser event. The staging was simple and effective, a 3 piece band provided a well-balanced sound. All in all an enjoyable and fun evening. Well done to all in involved.
