With the strains of the traditional piano accordion filling the auditorium, the audience was immediately transported to France during WW2. René appeared and set the scene in the manner we were all accustomed to, his voice taking on the tired, down trodden tone, explaining his worries of hiding the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies. Then... bang .... within seconds the stage became a hive of activity which continued throughout the evening.
The well-rehearsed cast captured the very essence of the much-loved screen version of the nation’s favourite show. It was full of drama, laughs, innuendos and slick timing. It is hard to single out individuals in this rip roaring comedy, as everyone who took part embraced their character and gave a brilliant performance.
A special mention must go to first time director Louise Wood and her co-director Denise Clark for their superb interpretation of the play. The packed house enjoyed every minute and many a happy tear was wiped away as the Berwick Amateur Operatic Society pulled off yet another successful production.
