The saying goes “What you have not got you never miss” That might be true in many walks of life but I suspect it’s not the case in the world of amateur theatre. After a period of loss of this genre it was marvellous to witness the return to the stage of Fatfield Musical Stage Society and their production of “All Together Now” part of the global event celebrating musical theatre.

Under the guidance of director Claire Taylor and Musical Director Thomas Hindmarch the Society treated the audience to an array of musical numbers that covered the spectrum of musical theatre from fifteen different shows .All were delivered with the usual harmonic balance of voices the Society’s well earned reputation is founded upon .The selection and composition of the programme was cleverly chosen and I think reflected with poignancy  the events of the last two years and the hope we all have for the future. It was also intermingled with some light hearted joyous numbers that just put smiles on faces.

Examples of this thought process started appropriately when the show kicked off with “Be Our Guest” and other Company highlights were “We’re All in this Together”(High School Musical) “The New World” (Songs For The New World)“Seize The Day” (Newsies) “Children Will Listen”(Into The Woods)and “Seasons of Love”(Rent)

Of course no show would be complete without some individual performances. Luckily the Society is blessed with such talent. We had great renditions of “Back Before Time” (Anne Taylor) “This is the Moment”(Reece Sohdi) “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables”(Adam Potter) “Wouldn’t  It Be Loverly”(Louise Logan Smith) and for me the pick of them “She Used To Be Mine” a heart rending performance from Stephanie Corbett  who was beautifully assisted by Claire Taylor’s “Signing” of the number.

In closing a big thank you to the Rights Holders who allowed free use of the material. Congratulations and well done to you all. It’s great to be back!!
