This was a well-paced production containing some iconic songs, good singing and choreography, romance, comedy and pathos.

Louise Hewitt made a perfect Natalie showcasing her all-round talents as a singer, dancer and actor. She was well matched by Brett Dewsbury as the energetic, rebel roustabout, Chad. There was a very strong performance from James Price as Dennis as not only did he provide plenty of humour he got the audience on his side as he tried to win the affections of Natalie. The pairing of Sarah Diamond (Mayor Matilda Hyde) and Jonathan Edwards (Sheriff Earl) was ideal as their comedy timing was spot on. Kieran Smith Taylor (Dean Hyde) and Rosa Carter (Lorraine) provided more romance and they worked well together. I liked Steve Thornhill’s characterisation as a widower, Jim Haller as he sought to get his life back on track after losing his wife. He was well partnered by Helen Collins as Sylvia. All the above showed strong singing voices both in solos and harmonising in duets. Lauren Barry certainly looked the part she sought love in the small township combining ideally with all the other principals. There was strong support from all members of the cast whether in ensembles or chorus. It was difficult knowing where to look at times as there was so much going on.

The whole performance was backed up by some very competent and sympathetic playing by the band.

Well done to everyone for providing such a good evening’s entertainment!
