Elvis's music came to The Garrick this week in this fast moving production from Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company featuring his well know tunes.
In a small American town, Natalie is mending cars, then in rides 'bad boy' Chad who wants his motor cycle fixed. He introduces wild music into the town which has been banned by the towns Mayor. This starts off events of mismatched couples and a case of mistaken identities.
Adam Gregory and Lucy Surtees were well cast as Chad and Natalie. The chemistry between the two characters really worked as the audience could tell from their acting and superb singing. Good support came from Kerrie Davies as Sylvia and Ben Green as Jim, who, again, had really good singing voices. I really enjoyed Tony Orbell's performance as Dennis. His comic timing was perfection. Vanessa Morgan gave a good performance as Sandra, as did Ben Adams as Earl, who came into hi own in the second act of the show. Louise Grifferty gave a strong performance as the Mayor of the Town, Matilda. Chloe Child as Lorraine and Ed Mears as Dean worked well together and I really enjoyed Ed's rendition of 'Its Now or Never'. (One of my favourite Elvis songs).
I don't know what to say about the chorus other than they we full of life and energy and their dancing, under the direction of Maggie Jackson was a unmissable.
The costumes, looked great against an imaginative set.
Sheila Pearson's orchestra really added that little something to the production. The sound technicians got the balance between them and the cast just right.
This was Elisa's first outing as a production director and what a debut it was.
