A well I bless my soul... All Shook Up.

A story of life, love and Rock and Roll, based on some of the back catelogue made famous by Elvis Preseley. Written in 2004 by Joe DiPietro based on William Shakespear's Twelfth Night.

Matthew Dewey rocked as Roustabout lady killer Chad, great vocals. One cool dude.

Katie Carthy gave a stuning performance as Natalie, a grease monkey with yearn for adventure, a really lovely tender performance, humorous dialogue delivered with stylish flair and panache.

They were very ably supported by their fellow leading characters all of whom had solo or duet numbers which allowed them to shine, a particular mention here to the vocal prowess of Kelly Marie Edwards as the fiesty bar owner Sylvia.

Director and Choreographer Craig Armstrong's distinct style of production was very evident, he has a real knack of playing to all of the strengths of the cast to dazzling effect. The whole cast were really strong, visibly engaging, their enjoyment was infectious, they had good stage craft, excellent voices, making this show a feast for the eyes and ears.

Musical Director Matthew Davis lead from the front on keyboard, all of the musicians did a fantastic job in recreating and capturing the sound palette style and feel of the era, interlaced with the modern show style arrangements. So many lead vocalists throughout, all beautifully backed, obviously very well rehearsed.

Probably the biggest revelation for me about the show was the song arrangements. These songs so indelibly stamped in the memory banks over the years, were completely transformed. The arrangements and harmonies were superb; prior to the show, my annual quota of three Elvis songs would be two more than required by choice, so I was apprehensive to say the least on seeing the thirty or so listed. I must now confess that I could happily listen to the All Shook Up soundtrack anytime.

Great sound, a really well balanced mix. If I was to be extra picky, there was the odd late mic fade-in, but with so many soloists to contend with this was possibly just a first night issue. Lighting, was visually sublime at times, creating some very effective vignettes framing the action on stage so well.

Costumes were absolutely spot on. Vibrant and colourful, certainly invoking the period well. Simple sets, allowed the show a good pace, slickly changed scenes as well.

All Shook Up, is an effervescent, lively, fun, feel good show

Elvis has left the building. Thankya very much!
