Little Theatre Company continues their run of new productions with this show, full of Elvis Presley songs. Unlike many shows of this ‘jukebox’ genre, All Shook Up has a decent storyline and some great dialogue. Director Bradley Green brought out the humour and, with the slightly ‘over the top’ style, made sure that we were entertained throughout the show.

All the Principals gave strong performances but I would single out Jamie Redgate who played Dennis to perfection. His timing and characterisation were a joy to watch. Laura Deaves (Natalie) and Simon Bristoe (Chad) played the principal roles with conviction and Simon’s byplay with the audience was a treat. Dave Lobley (Jim Haller) and Lianne Larthe (Sylvia) gave us some great comedy moments. Kane Davis (Dean Hyde) and Hanna Cox (Lorraine) made a lovely young couple and Gemma Carracher not only gave a strong performance as Miss Sandra but also choreographed the show. I must also mention Stephanie Wilson (Mayor Matilda Hyde) and Colin Bott (Sheriff Earl), they make a good team and their timing was excellent.

The singing was terrific from every member of the cast, including the off stage backing singers, who gave the songs a depth that a smaller cast would not have been able to produce. The arrangements stayed true to the originals but gave plenty of opportunity for harmony and part singing which made it more interesting to listen to. Without exception, every singer produced strong performances true to the ‘rock’ genre.

Costumes were, in the main, excellent and there was an attention to detail that made the ‘look’ of the show coherent and enhanced the performances. The standing set was well used and the stage crew made the props and scene changes smoothly and efficiently, helping to maintain the pace of the show.

The orchestra, under the direction of Paul Day produced a good ‘rocking’ sound which supported the singers without overpowering their voices.

The audience fully appreciated the excellent performances and the standing ovation at the end was well deserved.
