Alice in Wonderland

This fun filled Panto was all about the young cast and that is the way Abbey Theatre Club like it. From the start the young performers were up front in most of the major parts and all of the smaller ones. All handling the dialogue well showing character in their roles and singing and dancing with enjoyment. We had a memorable Alice and her love interest Harry (Erin and Megan), a fun Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (Evie and Maria), the late white Rabbit and his nasty opposite Bandersnatch (Khye and Lexi) and the suitably evil The Wrong Royal Red Queen (Kayla). The rest of the cast were split into Goodies and Baddies and they acted accordingly. We had some fun with slapstick, an add on song, a ghost chase, magic mirror, a flamingo puppet and a large Jabberwocky. Great work and a gold star for line learning to you all.

The few adult members of the company added their experience and helped in the fun. They were the King (Alan Johnson), The Right Royal Red Queen (David Colligan), March Hare (Louis Walton), Dormouse (Sue Ross), Mrs Wrong Rabbit (Heather You). The Cheshire Cat (Holly Clifford) and The Mad Hatter (Terri Baker). Well done, you were excellent role models.

The set, props and effects were very good. Costumes and make up suited the production and the ages of the cast. Scene changes were slick and lighting and sound completed the picture. The production blended the more experienced with the juniors really well and allowed everyone to shine. A task completed expertly by the producer, Steven.

I know this was a team effort with members of the group all working together. I am impressed by the way this group is continuing to encourage their youth section and provide opportunities for all to experience amateur theatre both on and off stage. A real community spirit.
