Yet again an excellent production that was slick, well rehearsed, fast moving and polished. Lee Holmes` superb original script should be published and hired out.
This panto had the usual slapstick and traditional content that one expects, but it was the delivery and enjoyment that makes it such an entertaining production.
Telling the story, Alisdair Hamilton excelled as the unflappable rhyming Cheshire Cat, closely followed by Sue Kirkland, a most amusing White Rabbit with the corny gags thrown in. Dame Poppins, Richard Kirkland, and Ian Humphries as Silly Billy, worked together well, extracting laugh lines to the full. Beverley Taylor-Collins was suitably loud and brash as Queen Grizelda, and Paul Makinson was outstanding as the evil Cheshire Rat. There was a good performance from Rebecca Pipes as Alice, and Charlotte Short as Prince Charming. Rachel Buxton as Mad Hatter and Jo Russell as March Hare complimented each other perfectly. The whole company deserve great praise for keeping the piece flowing. Not forgetting the young dancers, who completed the enthusiastic group.
First class and colourful set and costumes, this was good family entertainment.
