~~This lively production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by the enthusiastic members of Swanmore Amateur Dramatic Society made for a delightful evening in the Village Hall. With some catchy tunes, a super set and some lovely costumes, it was clear that the hard work which had obviously gone in to preparing the show paid off in fine style.
Leading the ensemble as Alice, Annabel Dillon gave a confident performance dancing and singing well and had clearly inspired the rest of the cast to give performances of similar quality as there wasn’t a weak link on stage. She made an engaging couple with the delightful Ben Pharaoh as Jack / The Knave. Lynda Parker proved to be a firm favourite with the audience as the White Rabbit and her darting and scuttling antics were much appreciated. Together with Caroline Powell as Dormouse they portrayed their animal characters with style. Martin Letts as a very confident King and Lesley Wilson making a very imperious Queen; what a very regal pairing indeed. Mike Clay as a Burtonesque Mad Hatter and Danny Jeffs as March Hare, arguably stole the show with flamboyant, mischievous characters.
Musical numbers, led by Peter Fellows, were lively and made the most of both the stage space and the performers’ skills with lighting and sound all working harmoniously to create a well thought out entertainment. The whole show under Director, Lesley Preedy and Choreographer, Caroline Powell gave the audience tremendous enjoyment. A good all round show.
