Thank you for inviting me to review your production of Aladdin Jnr. It was lovely to see such a full house at the Civic Hall, and thank you on behalf of Phyllis and myself, for giving us such an hospitable welcome.

The simplicity of the set, enabled the production to move at a good pace throughout the performance, this was achieved by the use of projection screens. The projections used really gave a Disney vibe to the production. The Magic Carpet along with the elephant were amazing, I do wish you could have had the elephant on stage, to be seen by the audience in all its glory. The lighting added to the excitement of the piece. Credit must go to the wardrobe team, the costumes, along with the headwear were fabulous. I felt that the musical backing track was slightly loud, and this could have contributed to some hiccups with levels of  the head mics needing to be set too high.

It was clear that the company were enjoying themselves. The energy and enthusiasm shown by every single cast member, was tangible throughout the performance. All the main principals gave strong , convincing portrayals of their respective characters.

Max Doran  gave a super performance, as a completely over the top Genie, and by the way his bald wig was excellent. Rachel Donnan played a very convincing Aladdin, and her side kicks, Heather Smith, Olivia Buchanan and Steph Holburt brought the comedy to their performance and were certainly a formidable team. Chloe Fawcett as Princess Jasmine, Adam James as Jafar and Jay Cruickshank as the Sultan, played their roles with style.

The ensemble singing and interesting choreography were excellent, much praise must go to the choreographers, Emily Morton, Amy Morton and Judith Henderson. Well done to Maria Morton as Director for bringing this excellent youth production to life.

CONGRATULATIONS to every single one of you.
