It was really good to see Cowdenbeath Community Theatre back on stage at the Lochgelly Centre, with so many familiar faces and a sprinkling of new. This year it was Peter Denyer’s Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp. Lynsey Combe was thoroughly at home as Aladdin as was Natalie Adamson as Princess So-Shi. They both have such excellent singing voices which they used to advantage in their duets – well done. Sean Mitchell was thoroughly nasty as Abanazer tempered by strong performances from Lynne Donaldson as Slave of the Ring and Gary Duncan as Genie of the Lamp. Alan Boniface tackled the role of Widow Twanky with his inimitable style. Alex Keatings was a wonderfully charismatic Wishee Washee and Mellissa Moyes and Cathy Wood were paired well as PC Pong and PC Ping. Dianne C Peet was an imposing Emperor of China. Staging was excellent; scenery and costumes both looked good. As always, the chorus and dancers gave excellent support - they knew all their lines and moves and performed with enthusiasm. A traditional pantomime, well put together and well presented.
