I did wonder how on earth pirates could be woven into the story of Aladdin but I have to say that it worked very well and Captain Abanazer (Andy Stanley) and his shipmate Boney Malone (Dee Dawson) brought a good deal of humour to this show. They really got into the spirit of pantomime and the children loved them.
Widow Twankey (Colin Smith), her right hand man Wishee Washee (Max Lancaster) and his six foot penguin Monty (Jackson Dobson) were at the centre of village life and worked well together. Aladdin (Janet Darwin) and her sweetheart Princess Eugenie (Marie Chapman) were a delightful cheeky couple. They were well supported by an enthusiastic cast and chorus.
There were some lovely colourful chorus scenes with attractive cosumes throughout and good makeup.
The performance area at Knaresborough is small but the choreographers had managed well with the large cast and the simple dances worked well. There were well known songs to sing along with and lots of opportunities for the audience to join in the fun. An entertaining evening.
