The comedy always very strong in a Mundesley pantomime with the talents of Pat Nearney as Widow Twankey complete with the ‘dresses’, wit and repartee, encouraged and assisted by Paul Reynolds as Wishee Washee in great form with audience participation (and we guarded his wee-wee tree all through the show). And good script local references much appreciated by the audience.
A very nasty piece of work in Neil Ellson’s Abanazar (and the running ‘banana’ lines), certainly a man of stature and domination and easy to boo for his evil, do not meet on a dark night! Always the role to dream of!
In the title role, Sharron Jiggins had it all: experience and personality, looks and style, strength of character, and the vocals. A very nice duo with Cerian Ellson as a delightful and attractive Princess, and again the vocals. The handmaiden Zing Zong (Ginny Keane) quite a major role in this locally written script from Nigel Holmes, worked well in the story with the other characters.
On the magical side, once again the stalwart and controlling and keeping the story together Norfolk Fairy from Sheilah Olley: Mundesley pantomime would not be the same without her presence. Two up and coming talents from the younger ranks: excellent diction and portrayals from Victoria Ing as Spirit of Ring and Lottie Waller as Genie of Lamp, good to see encouragement of these two and just waiting for future performances to see progress.
Amongst the smaller roles, good performances from Police Chief Judy Ellson, great fun, the Emperor from Dave Tyrell, and the small Vizier with gong of Dylan Wilson.
A strong chorus, and large number with a cast age range over 65 years I was told! The tiny jewels stole that scene! Lots of youngsters all enjoying a half-term project with enthusiasm and good movement and song, and helped by the adult input to give a full stage of pantomime enjoyment.
The scenery and props team gave some colourful backing and input into this very successful pantomime put together this year by Ian Cashmore and Pat Nearney Loved the ‘magic carpet ride’ around the streets of Mundesley!
