Foul weather can significantly reduce the size of theatre audiences, especially where tickets have not been purchased in advance of a show. It was therefore pleasing to see the rain stop and the gusty wind subside during the afternoon prior to the opening performance of CADS 2015 pantomime; this company had been unable to stage such a show the previous year owing to the refurbishment of the school premises used by them. Despite the inclement weather, loyal supporters from the village of Crowland and beyond filled the venue to watch and participate in a highly entertaining and colourful production that included all the traditional panto ingredients. This was a high-energy show in which all the principals displayed strong characterisation – particularly Dilara Hussein-Greene ( comfortable and confident as Aladdin),  John Munton ( as the exuberant Widow Twankey), Matt Smith ( the lively and likeable Wishee Washee), Mollie Moore-Howe ( as demure Princess So Shi), Alex Waller (the majestic Emperor), and Dan Abbott (the evil and instantly dislikeable Abanaza). As in their previous pantos there was a major contribution from the competent and disciplined well-rehearsed young chorus (the biggest so far). The costumes, scenery, props and lighting were all up to the mark with the efforts of many unseen members of the team contributing to this enjoyable and successful production. Well done all who were involved!
