President Ross Adam and the group have had a busy year with the annual show “Oklahoma!” in April, the Fiftieth Anniversary Dinner in May, presentation of the Cabaret at the NODA National Conference at Peebles in October and this the thirty-seventh annual pantomime in November. But such is the strength and vitality of the Group!
“Aladdin” with the familiar story adapted by Roy McGregor was a great choice of show and the title role was taken by Barbara Churcher looking good in an Aladdin costume. Craig Inglis seemed to be the natural choice for Widow Twanky with Ross Adam cast in the role of her wayward son Wishee Washee. Lorna Logan took the role of the charming Princess Balroubador and Jean Logue and June Dougan cavorted around as the comedy duo Ping and Pong. Ian Usher played the dignified Abanaza, his son Cavan (age 6) also appearing for the first time in the cast. Dad would be very proud indeed. Every panto needs a Genie and Martin Hutcheson obliged, popping out here and there when required. Carol McLaughlin returned to the boards this time to play the Spirit of the Ring. Shona Paterson took the comedy part So-Shy and poor Fiona Clark perspired nightly in the heavy costume for Persil the Panda. Ian Mcgregor and Gail Reid took the grand titles of the Emperor and Empress of China and the principal cast was completed by Daniel McDonald as the Grand Vizier. Support to the main actors was provided by a lively ensemble and troupe of talented dancers.
It is good to see the gradual changes in the cast as time goes on showing that the group maintains its strength. The Tweedie Hall, Linwood is perfectly acceptable as a temporary venue but the Group are looking forward to the new facilities which are expected to be completed in 2016.
