On a cold December night it was good to be whisked away to the warmth of a bright, and funny, Old Peking. The venerable city was ringing with familiar panto songs such as “Old Bazaar In Cairo” from the full company to some not so familiar like the poignant “Now I’ve Seen You” sung by the lovelorn Aladdin. Leading the fun was a larger-than-life Widow Twankey (Brian Matheson) ably assisted by his daft son Wishee Washee (Caitlyn Boyd) and the simple PCs Ping (Teresa Warden) and Pong (Danielle Collie). Aladdin (Maia Middleton) and Princess So-Shi (Erin Smith) made a delightful couple. Abanazer (Miller Young) was suitably evil and boo-able and the impecunious Emperor (Ali Niven) was still mightily imperious when called for – I liked her rendition of “I’ve Got A Little List”. Magic was in the hands of the beautiful Slave of the Ring (Catherine Wales) and an effervescent Genie of the Lamp (Ross Robertson). The large chorus sang and moved well throughout. Thanks to the production team, cast and crew for an enjoyable show.
