Every ingredient you would expect to find in a traditional pantomime was included – an excellent script (Alan Frayn), lively choreography, colourful costumes, and comedy with plenty of topical jokes, songs including “China Town”, “Sunday Clothes”, and “This was the Moment”. This was a sparkling production which kept the audience of all ages entertained throughout.Abanazar (Peter Bourne) quickly achieved his objective of being disliked, booing and hissing accompanied each appearance he made. Aladdin (Jo Austin) gave a strong performance and her partnering with the sweet and sensitive Princess Mandarin (Sarah Goodall) provided balance and both were comfortable in their roles.
Widow Twankey (Martin Goodall) was, as always, an exuberant Dame making the most of the comedy and outrageous costumes. Her son Wishee Washee (Andy Tompkinson) was an excellent foil as he fizzed around the stage. Their energy and enthusiasm kept the production moving forward great pace.
The Spirit of the Ring, (Theresa Bray), the other players and dancers were all excellent in their supporting roles.
The Music, provided by Keyboard and Drums, lighting, sound and special effects were all of high standard.
