Another year gone and back where real community theatre still exists. Aladdin the pantomime needs no introduction, this like all others contains good and bad, a magic lamp, the Genie , two policemen ,two sons, a cast of many and a man in a dress, or should we say lots of dresses. I can fill the review with he did this and she did that but this one is to be a little different. I have been privileged to attend DMTC over the last six years, and what I witnessed then I still see today. The strength of this society is everyone. Not simply those on stage who take the deserved applause, but all those often not mentioned without whom this society could not exist. Many parents involving themselves with all aspects of unsung involvement, building and painting the sets, being chaperones, assisting with back stage changes and a strength in depth front of house. Always friendly and clearly wanting to be a part of this special society. The vision from the production team certainly shows through with this inclusive group, Jack , Janet , Sara, Beth and Janet bring such a wealth of tried and tested experience. I must also mention the writer, Olivia, having been with the society, as a performer for many years, now hones her skills on the writing, and what a rewarding script she has produced.  The uniqueness of DMTC is based on an inclusive cast with ages from 4 to 18 with the only exception being your Widow Twankey by Jack Taylor and WisheeWashy by Charlotte Hunt, two experienced panto performers who are role models for all around. How special to see these young performers grow with confidence gaining experience in the special skills required in Pantomime. Aladdin by Maiya Green, Princess Yasmine by Emily McDonald, Abanazar by Charlie Betts, Genie of the lamp by Megan Green, Queen by Imogen Harris, King by Elliot Woolliscroft, Spirit of the Ring by Poppy Rae Sleeth, Prince Nadeen by Dylan Bowman, Big Bob by Lola Hull and Little Bob by Isla Overend-Hogg. As the principals you all shone with some lovely pieces of theatre, ever improving singing with many beautifully performed solos, duets and group numbers. This principal group are well supported by the four Handmaidens along with the four cave spirits, market traders, ghosts, ensemble and of course not forgetting Twankey’s Dancers. The production team gave plenty of thought with the well chosen songs, group numbers for all to enjoy including Hooky St , 9-5, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Shine, Sparkle and Shine, Razzle Dazzle  and much more. The sets all home produced worked well along with an enormous amount of great costumes, sound and lighting was well executed. I did wonder if the circle swirling lights could be used a little less particularly during the more quiet and atmospheric scenes. In summary a lovely script brought to life by the inventive production team and performed by this lovely society. On a personal note, I think you could have included one more song………

WE ARE FAMILY because that’s what you are, and don’t lose that great ethos.

Thank you all for a special evening of fun frivolity and theatrefor your sold-out audiences to enjoy
