Even a fire alarm going off could not stop this fine panto from CLOC MTC. From the beginning it had everything, villains, hero’s, an empress and a funny dame.
Katie Lewis as Aladdin lead the company well. Really nice singing voice and well-acted. The villain of the piece, Abanazar, was played by Calum Reynolds. A great stage presence and how the audience really enjoyed booing him. Princess Jasmine, played by Erin Mooney gave strong support. Enter Wishee, a great comedy role portrayed by Lee Walker. I felt so sorry for him in the kitchen scene when he got covered in the most horrible gunge. His Mother, Widow Twankey was played by Krystian Wharton. This role was in safe hands with Krystian following on in his fathers footsteps. He played this role well and how the audience laughed at the rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’. It was also good to see Krystian’s son Lukas as one of the guards, carrying on the family tradition for which CLOC is renowned. Karen Whitehouse played an upper class Empress of Egypt, and did her best to make Doris (Karen Walker) laugh, but was she successful. Two very good Genie’s in the production, Paige Howen as the Genie of the Ring and Samantha Rogers as the Yorkshire Genie of the Lamp. I think that we should see more of these two in future productions. Good support came from Tina Boyce and Eloise Tanley together with Kevin Astbury-Pemberton and Ben Neville.
The UV sequence went down well with the audience and the magic carpet effect was well done and amazed this Sutton Coldfield audience.
The Chorus and dancers worked well as a team and the musical numbers were well sung. Congratulations to Keith Airey and his great sounding band and Hayley Howden for her hard work with the choreography. The costumes looked good on stage as did the scenery and every word could be heard thanks to the sound by Martin Hudson. Lighting was good, supplied by Going Dark.
The panto was written by Ben Crocker and with the additional material written by Krystian Wharton was seamless.
Krystian and Stacey Muxlow as producers should be well pleased with the outcome of this production.
Well done to all involved.
