Kathy West as Director of Aladdin you have done it again!! You took the age-old Aladdin and gave it a different look...With great choice of song and dance (even a tap routine) - yes a tap routine in panto? Great. What next for Rats, Stepping Out? Kathy West, you have done Rats proud.
On a cold Saturday night what is better than a panto, and this 'Aladdin' certainly warmed up their audience. Taking the lead and the opening, and a lot more, the professionalism of Gerald Flanagan, a well-seasoned actor, playing Abanazar. Gerald's maturity of working his audience certainly shone through.
Gerti the Dame (Darren Hammock) was on hand to help and with the characters of Sidney (Richie Bassett), Bibi (Leigh Redding) and Aladdin made this family functional as it should be in Aladdin. Of course, Aladdin (Amy Metcalfe) and Princess Jasmine (Louse Giddings) were the love interest and these two ladies worked well together, giving us good stage
presence and delivered good voices. Joanna Godman was hilarious as The Genie of the ring. Claire Feekings playing The Empress of Egypt was made for this part, her facial nuances were perfect! What a part played by Amanda Miller as Doris - superb Amanda. Josh Webb easily portrayed a very camp Genie of the lamp; he was aided by Joe Pritchett and Kevin Lance as the Guards. But!! my praise of this panto goes to Steve Berry and Jill Balderston. Steve's accent and deliverance of the lines, for Fazil were exceptional as was Jill's puppeteering. Loved it!.
Members of the ensemble gave us dance and song and looked as if they were enjoying the experience.
Kathy's team of backstage staff all need a special mention: giving us great costumes, lighting and staging, all brought together by lan West as Stage manager.
RaTs you continue to give us a yearly pantomime of high standard. Thank You
