SCADS chose the traditional story of Aladdin as a most welcome return of their Annual Pantomime, their last production being in 2019.  I say traditional pantomime, as whilst the story was broadly based on the traditional story, because it was written and directed by a member of the Society, there were obviously lots and lots of highly comic and very much appreciated regional comments, including the almost obligatory football references!

The scenery was wonderfully colourful and appeared to work well for all concerned.  I thought the ‘magic carpet’ scene was most evocative showing, as it did, ‘cut-outs’ of national landmarks moving around the stage, accompanied by relevant music, whilst Aladdin and Princess Jasmine remained stationary, worked really well and was very effective.  I also loved the two ‘dragons’ performed very well by the junior chorus.

Costumes were colourful, appropriate and worn well, please bear in mind appropriate and conversely non-appropriate jewellery, such as watches and wedding rings, (and I include tattoos in that) however, specific congratulations on the costumes for The Dame and Abanazer both of which were simply splendid.

The whole of the chorus, both Junior and senior, worked well together and looked to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.  Lots of appropriate smiles throughout the whole production and across the whole cast added to the enjoyment of the audience.

Principals were cast well, and worked well together, with some good characterisations and plenty of laughs along the way.  A combo at the rear of the hall provided some really great and appropriate music throughout the evening.

All in all, a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable evening, obviously a considerable amount of work had been put in right across the board, visibly by the people on stage, but everyone both on stage and off deserves recognition for bringing this really local feel pantomime to the stage.  It was certainly appreciated by your large audience on the evening I attended, and the cast appeared to be hugely enjoying themselves too.  In my book, I would say that meane ‘Mission Accomplished’ thank you SO much to all at SCADS.
