A warm welcome as always from Colin Peterson and the front of house staff for me and Codsall’s sternest critic, my 8.3/4 year old great grandson Andrew. He has been attending their pantomimes for the past four years and although he also attends professional pantos he says he has the most fun at Codsall and it’s the one he really looks forward to.
This year was no exception. The talented young members Tom Churm (Aladdin), Princess Yasmin (Ali Hughes), The Handmaidens Hannah Austin, Summer Ellis and Zara Dunn, and the older members John Bingham (Sultan), Wendy Peterson (Vizier), Nikki Ellis (Widow Twanky) supported by Fiona Bingham as the Genrie-Renie, Ray Manning as Genie of the Lamp (or Great Dave) and Grandmother Anita Yates, were all suitably impressed and subdued by the presence of the baddie of the piece Abanazar (Matt Birch).
Of course we had the panto song with even the adults in the audience rubbing their tummies and patting their heads and joining in whenever possible with booing and “it’s behind you”.
It was all presented with effective lighting and sound, lots of props and pretty costumes.
If applause, laughter and audience participation is the yardstick for a good pantomime then there is no doubt that this year was another successful year for Codsall DS.
