It was a cold January evening and it would be understandable if you did not venture out, but you would have missed a treat had you not visited Ombersley Dramatic Society at the Memorial Hall for a warm welcome and some great entertainment. ‘Aladdin’ ably directed by Mike Turner, with musical accompaniment by Lucas Ball and Ian Armstrong, took us through a new version of this well loved panto through Old Peking, Twankies laundry, the Emperors palace , Abanazar’s den and beyond!
The script was funny and well delivered, particularly by Christopher Marsh as ‘Widow Twankee’, whose ‘throw away’ delivery was most effective and very funny. ‘Abanazar’ played by Simon Billington was very well acted and completely convincing as the evil magician. More good support was provided by Aladdin (Kathy Othen), Wishee Washee (Alex Fitzgerald), Princess Peko (Tracy Venables), Genie of the Lamp & the Slave of the Ring (Ruth Hammond & Sue Williams) and the Herald (Nick Brown) all added to the fun.
Adult & junior chorus’ provided the links and the whole cast coped well with the limited space to work in and should be proud of the final result. The atmosphere was great and the audience appreciated it. Thank you very much for the invitation and the warm welcome from everyone.
