After battling through several inches of snow and learning that society members had cleared a path, it was a delight to get into the warmth of Chinatown and Farnworth`s production of Aladdin. We were frightened by the evil Abanazer, greeted with boos and hisses from the audience, well played by James Abercrombie. He wants the magic lamp but only Aladdin can get it from the cave. Aladdin (Jennifer Scrafton) falls in love with the Princess Mandarin (Stacey Roscoe), both singing and acting were super, harmonies spot on. The song ` A Whole New World` was beautiful. Widow Twankey ( Christian Brabin) and the younger son Wishee Washee (Gareth Mabon) had everyone in hysterics, they were so funny. The costumes were fantastic. Helping, or hindering were the two dimwitted policemen Yu-Dun-Wong and Hu-Dun- Pong humerously played by Rachel Scrafton and Chris Hatchman. Minor parts, the princess`s handmaiden So-Shy (Joanne Burton) ,the Emporer (Colin Dean), Spirit of the ring and Genie of the Lamp, Frances Shinks and Jack Corrigan were all well cast The dancing of Ebony Crosby was outstanding. The ballet was stunning. Mention must be made of the great chorus. How they must have rehearsed The children really looked as though they enjoyed every minute on stage, especially the two youngsters Jack and Sophie. You were all brilliant. The whole evening was such fun Thank you for all the help getting the audience in and out of the hall in such adverse weather conditions
