This semi-farce play set in the village hall, had plentiful murders throughout with many twists and turns. It was brought to life by an excellent cast who highlighted every bit of humour. Well directed by Lynne, there were many superb characterisations.
Richard Kirkland was outstanding as D I Twigg, the incompetent detective who stumbled through his investigations with many semi-malapropisms, a superb performance. He was well supported by Rachel Humphries with a delightful acting display as Miss Agatha Crusty, sensibly solving the crimes despite the various hilarious interruptions. Good performances abounded, Ian Humphries as the droll caretaker Harry Knott, Stefan Osvath in the dual roles of Oliver and Olivia Truscott-Pratt, along with Catherine Baker as Eleanor Wagstaff, who had her eyes fully focused on the Vicar Toby Bishop, played by Peter Harrison, whose facial expressions throughout had the audience very much amused.
Other very effective performances came from Sue Cope as Alice Fogg, Stacey Murton as Maisie Grimm, with Gareth Jones as PC Locket, Jo Russell as Isabella Battersby, and Kat Fenton as Mandy-Neve Smith completing a very good line-up.
Performed on a set which typified many a village hall, with many scene changes competently achieved, this was a good night`s entertainment.
