Agatha Crusty and the Pantomime Murders by Drama Incorporated
Drama Incorporated’s production of Agatha Crusty and the Pantomime Murders offered a cheerful evening of theatre, bringing together a dedicated cast and crew for a light-hearted murder mystery with a pantomime twist.
Helen Caudwell took on the challenging role of Agatha Crusty with determination. With an enormous number of lines to master, she carried the story confidently and kept the play moving throughout. She was well supported by Mark Hayward as Alan Wilde, whose comic timing was a highlight of the evening. Simon Armstrong gave a good performance as Nick Angel, and Jodie Neary-Hilliard was both clear and well-characterised in the role of Jessica Price the group’s director.
Tracey Tyler played the HR Officer Hazel Armstrong and Lesley Bright played the drama groups treasurer Gloria Bennett both giving memorable performances. Zoe Hayward played Juliet Phillips with conviction and confidence. Elizabeth Holme-Cherry was particularly engaging as Sue Watson-Moore, winning over the audience with her lively and energetic delivery.
Jamie Armstrong as Jack Bradley and Rachel Warner as Emily Lewis both played these smaller roles well.
Nigel Ellis added colour and flair to the production as the flamboyant Anton DeValera, while also making his debut as director. His dual contribution both onstage and behind the scenes gave the show a distinctive character.
Backstage, Holly Hammond and Caitie Hart ensured the scene changes were efficient, and the technical team of Harry Ellis and Sam Jackson provided excellent sound and lighting. Every actor could be heard clearly, and there was good use of sound effects.
It has been six years since the company last staged a play, as they are usually known for their pantomimes. This evening showcased the community spirit at the heart of Drama Incorporated. Interval refreshments included homemade cakes and a wide range of drinks, served with a warm welcome by the front of house team. The overall sense was one of a group working together, enjoying themselves, and passing that enjoyment on to their audience. Many congratulations to all involved.
